The need for a support system for the development of social enterprise in Dublin was identified, particularly given its potential in a period of recession, threatened mass unemployment and scarce national resources. Working with Clann Credo (The Social Investment Fund), with whom DEP had previously collaborated on the successful Social Finance strategy in 2003-05, a study (by John Everett Assoc.) was commissioned to form the basis for a practical strategy. In September 2008 DEP also joined a nationwide consortium coordinated by PLANET for mapping real social enterprise activity nationwide. This work was carried out by Eustace & Patterson Consultants. Both reports were completed and delivered in 2009, and presented at a Round Table on Social Enterprise.
